Compensation and Monetization of Mods

Since the beginning of the Transport Fever series, content creators have contributed countless hours with creativity and passion to provide awesome mods and help shape the community. We at Urban Games are very grateful for this and recognize that creating and maintaining mods can require a significant investment. We therefore believe that creators should have reasonable ways to receive recognition and support for their hard work. At the same time, we want to ensure that every player has a chance to access every mod for free. As a fair and consistent rule direct support of creators is permitted, but the sale of content is not.

Allowed forms of creator support include:
✔ Donations: Users may voluntarily provide financial support to creators without any expectation to receive something in return.
✔ Direct commissions: Users may commission creators to modify or create content according to their individual requests, providing that the resulting content is made available to all players free of charge.
✔ Patreon and similar support programs: Creators may use membership or donation platforms to receive financial support from their community. Supporter programs may provide additional benefits, such as:

  • Participation in polls or voting on future mod development
  • Exclusive development blogs, posts, videos, or behind-the-scenes content
  • Similar benefits that provide additional interaction or insight into the modding process

Selling of content is not permitted:
🚫 Paywalls: A mod may not be restricted to paying supporters or made available only through a Patreon membership or similar paid subscription.
🚫 Selling individual mods: Mods may not be sold through online shops, marketplaces, or other commercial storefronts as products.
🚫 Advertising with incomplete mods: Feature reduced or other dummy mods may not be published to advertise exclusive feature-complete mods that are only accessible through payment.
🚫 Hindered access for non-paying players: Access to mods may not be made more difficult through means that can be alleviated by payments (e.g. faster download speeds for paying customers)

We believe the open, non-commercial character of the Transport Fever community is one of the core pillars of the series. Supporting creators who voluntarily invest their time and effort in the community is greatly appreciated. However, such support should always remain voluntary and user-driven, rather than being used as a means of gatekeeping content. Accordingly, a creator may use Patreon or similar platforms to receive support and offer supporters additional benefits, but the full mods themselves must ultimately be made available to everyone without restrictions.

We strongly believe in giving credit and compensation where they are due. This is why we have established the Curated Mods Program.
