The campaign missions can be completed with different scores and hence offer challenges for both beginners and ambitious players. Especially for Transport Fever 3 newbies, it is recommended to play the first few campaign missions as they introduce the major game features step by step.
The missions are set in the historical context of the 20th to 21st century and offer a wide range of real-world transportation challenges. For instance, players are tasked to build a second tube for the Simplon tunnel, manage the logistical challenges of a music festival and optimize existing networks to prevent a large city from collapse. Frame stories make sure the campaigns are entertaining. Tasks include decisions and players can therefore fulfill the goals in several ways.
The campaign can be reached in the main menu by pressing the CAMPAIGN card. After finishing a mission, the next one unlocks. It is also possible to resume a mission save game from the individual mission pages.
Each mission can be succeed with either one, two or three stars as well as failed if certain critical challenges are not accomplished. Beside the primary goal, each mission has an optional bonus goal that can be used to earn medals.

The campaign's missions present logistical challenges based on real-world events. They do not claim to be historically accurate and are intended primarily for entertainment.
However, it should not be overlooked that the history of transportation has often been—and continues to be—a history of conflict, oppression, and, at times, great suffering. It also addresses dark chapters in world history, though the corresponding episodes are in no way intended to trivialize these events or mock their victims.
Accordingly, the value judgments conveyed in the individual missions do not reflect the developers’ own values.
